A day in his life. His life in a day.
Journey through a day and experience a life of a man who showed us that greatness isn't measured in what you take—but in what you give.
Born March 20, 1967 in Seoul, South Korea, Richard came to America at age 4 and grew up in Cerritos, California. From humble beginnings, he built a life marked by boundless energy, an infectious laugh, and a magnanimous personality that touched everyone he met.
At 19, Richard started in the mailroom at Hilton Anaheim. This sparked a 17-year career that took him from earning his Cornell hospitality certification to becoming one of the youngest Hotel Managers at Hilton. He rose through determination, sharp business sense, and genuine care for people.
In 2002, Richard took a leap of faith. He transformed La Casa del Camino in Laguna Beach, creating the Rooftop Lounge—the first rooftop bar in Laguna Beach. Born an entrepreneur, Richard became his own boss and grew his business empire through vision, hard work, and that magnetic personality.
As Richard's business grew, so did his generosity. He became heavily involved in philanthropic causes, devoting substantial time and leadership to support those in need. His giving spirit knew no bounds, and he believed deeply in lifting others as he climbed.
After a decade of success and adventure, Richard met his true love, Nikki. Their love was instant. They married in 2015 in a beautiful outdoor ceremony, and welcomed RJ in 2016 and Rachel in 2019. Richard often said finding his family was what completed his soul.
Richard and Nikki grounded their family in faith and love. He spent every day focused on being the best father and husband he could be. Richard was actively involved in St. Serra Catholic Elementary School, witnessing firsthand the invaluable benefits of faith-based education for RJ and Rachel.
Everyone who knew Richard described him as full of energy with an infectious laugh that could be heard from miles away. He lived an incredibly full and generous life. His magnetic personality drew people in, and his genuine care kept them close. Richard was beloved by so many.
If the measure of a man is based not on how he dies, but how he lives; and not on what he gains, but what he gives—Richard C. Ham is the truest measure of a man. His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every person he helped, every moment of joy he created.
Richard held St. Serra Catholic Elementary School dear to his heart. In his memory, we support their scholarship program for families seeking faith-based education for their children—just as Richard valued for RJ and Rachel. Your contribution continues his legacy of giving.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife Nikki, son RJ (7), and daughter Rachel (4). Though he joined our Heavenly Father on January 22, 2024, his spirit of generosity, his infectious laugh, and his legacy of giving continue to inspire all who knew him.
Richard passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife, Nikki, by his side. As the night comes to a close, Richard's spirit of generosity lives on in each of us. The promise of a new dawn approaches, illuminated by the light he shared.
